The old gay-filled diner closed in the Central West End, and even the restaurants in the older gay bars (you know, when there would be a smoke-filled dining area that always served a too-fussy chicken special, bad salads and frozen bar food) closed. Not only did The Edge - a mob-popular spot that was the site of a gang shooting (bullet holes were left on the building's exterior to add ambience) - close in one seedy near-ex-gay area, but the Hamburger Mary's closed when one of the local owners stole from the place.
